Inflammatus et accensus

When Antonin Dvorak composed his Stabat Mater he had just suffered the deaths of his children. This is the solo for alto voice that ends the sequence of the motet and leads into the final prayer of the work and the exhuberant Amen. Its shape is the baroque da capo aria only it is expressive of anguished and desperate supplication in the zest and fervor of late romantic style. It is a sort of Dies Irae. This piece by the Chech composer was intended as a musical gift to my accompanist who was born and trained in Prague and who has given me great insight in the work. I am eternally grateful to her as I am to my maestro mr Nicola Pagounis, bass who has uncomplainingly toiled to rid me of my baritone past and lead me into my countertenor future. The videos have been edited by my friend mr K.Vlastarakis to whom I would like to extend my thanks.
