bands like Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Hammerfall, etc. Certainly, whoever created Medieval Metal could be debated, but Medieval themed music has been playing for ages. Rhapsody is another good example. An older inspiration might be Wishbone Ash, and even Led Zeppelin had some Medieval inspired music (think Immigrant Song, though that is specifically Norse Legend). I hope this is a suitable answer for you.

Look I defend my position. Those bands have helped inspired modern day medieval metal. They weren't necessarily medieval metal but the guy asked for creators... so you generally point to the people who inspired them. If someone asked me who was in general responsible for hard rock then I'd tell them the Beatles. And I thank you for the band names! I hope they are as brutal as Satyricon.

The medieval times were some of the most brutal in our history! Plague, wars, famine in outrageous numbers. And since we're on the subject of metal... if it's not brutal, can you call it Metal? REALLY call it metal. If not's brutal, then it's just court music to me. Though I did check out those bands and they are pretty sweet for anyone else checking out this thread. But yes, not brutal.
