i've always been a fan, but that doesn't mean I always back a person on account of it. the simple truth is, audiences no longer want to hear performers talk their views, be it concerts or even the academy. we are paying to hear them sing. i think linda understands that today, which is why she says today she could have shown more grace.

Just because you paid to see some one, doesn't negate their right to express their viewpoint. Which, in Ronstadt's case was WELL known for years and, she had been making political comments the whole tour. Don't like it - don't go or leave peacefully. A ticket buys entry, not a vote on the content.

Was your ticket for Ronstadt or Randy? Both performances were errr different. First time I collared my father, at 80, and sang "Daddys Hands" it was tough to get through though I'd waited a long time to sing it as he'd unplug my mike! It takes practice from the heart.

Any artist has the right to air their views both in interview and in song. If we took the politics out of music we woud be a hell of a lot poorer in terms of the quality music we gained from the 50's.60's 70's etc. Even before that much of the classic folk music was politically generated. Where would music have been in the blues didn't have room for expression of views. If anyone is bothered by artists having a say, don't listen...If audiences aren't bothered anymore, that's plain sad.

Yeah, you have a right to be an idiot. Iraq has been a disaster since day one, when petulant Baby Bush ignored Daddy (who said "don't go into Iraq because it'll cause a civil war and we'll be there forever") and invaded anyhow. So now there's a civil war and we've been there 5 years with no end in sight, American soldiers dying every day and... oh fuggetabout it.

This was recorded back in 1983 or so and I first saw it on VH1 back then. Randy and Linda are two of my favorites, so this, and "Real Emotional Girl" are two incredible songs on Randy's "album". Don't care about Linda's politics. I care about hearing her beautiful voice and talent. Randy is one of the most prolific and unusual songwriters of our times, including his film scores. God bless 'em both.
