Oceanborne, People vote with their money,you can only judge success by what actually sells, be it cars,watches, films ect. The Bee Gees have sold over 280 million records! does that make you right and all those people wrong? that is without the sales of the millions of songs they have written and produced for others. Rd Hot chillis, Clapton, Lennon,Joplin. Elvis,Streisand,Status Quo, and countless others have done Bee Gees covers, I think your comments show you as a vacuous simpleton!

You have to laugh at some of the comments, as if Mike Patton could even lick the Bee Gees cracks! The fact that this song was written by the Bee Gees at 17 must tell you something, not to mention all the other early classics they wrote at that age. Its pathetic to suggest that more successful bands sell out because you dont like their music, if you want pute genius listen to all the Bee Gees albums! do not judge them by a couple of songs. There is more depth to this band than any other I know!

I couldnt agree more, Pattons version is weak, but lets not forget that the Bee Gees are incredible songwriters! 150 number one records in various countries!

Well if he is so original, why does he do so many covers? you only have to look at the amount of covers on you tube to know that they may well be more popular with his fans than his own work. As for being original, the Bee Gees were writing classic songs like To Love Somemebody at 17 years of age! That particular song has been recorded well over 250 times! they were 18 when they wrote I Started A Joke. People tend to associate them with disco only, but that period was minuscule in their career.

Actually, I agree with the Slugman, covers, covers, and more covers! That is what he is famous for, of course some people will think he is god, but some people thought Hitler was god too. The Bee Gees have so much more to offer than the disco period, perhaps you should do the listening. They are the real deal here, good singers are two a penny, good songwriters are a rarity.

LDenniger is a simpleton, the Bee Gees have had over 150 number one records in differen countries, over 400 singles in the top ten in various countries. Thats without the millions of records sold from songs they have written for other artists. Lay off Mike. Theres no debate over his talent, he has tons. Some people just don't agree with how he uses it. I think he puts his voice to great use by doing his own original(and yes, a little weird) stuff while paying TRIBUTE to other artists by covering their music. He writes tons of music. I don't think he'll ever be as mainstream as the Bee Gees, but he doesnt do covers because he cant write enough of his own material. He has fun and performs music he has always enjoyed as a music lover.

And you Bee Gees lovers should at least acknowledge the fact that he is spreading their music to a group of listeners who otherwise would have never heard it. I am one of those people. I thought the Bee Gees were all disco, but when I heard this song I was surprised, so I watched a vid of the BG's singing it. It's not as good in my opinion, I dont care for the high-pitched, trembly, pussified brit voice, but it's a well written song. It just sounds better with a more powerful voice like Mike's.

"great singers are two a penny, great songwriters are a rarity" It matters not that you now know this is a Bee Gees song, millions of people knew that, your musical ignorance is your own concern. You didn't really make any points except that in your OPINION you think patton is a "musical parasite". You also said "of years gone by" which really hurts your credibility. But please, educate me on truly great music since I am ignorant for not recognizing a 30-year-old song that was written almost a decade before I was born. Bottom line: I like the music that sounds good to ME, and this version with such a powerful vocalist performing the song sounds so much better than the Tiny Tim version.

To reiterate where are the great Patton tunes? there were plenty of artists who were not mainstream, but were very successful. Gosh, I never realized the BG's had so many die hard fans. The BG's are great if you are into that. We all know music is a matter of opinion and if we want to pretend to be so damn proper (you used vacuous in both your posts on here) we should be tolerant of those with different opinions. Thank you for not arguing like I am trying to insult the BG's...I may have made a few comments about Robin's(thats his name right?) voice, but they were funny. He does sound comparable to Tiny Tim with his high notes. But with that aside, I dont want to take anything away from the BG's. They obviously made a giant impact, probably larger than mike can ever hope to make. But Its pretty arrogant to act like he is not even worthy of playing one of their songs like some of the earlier comments
