It's quite funny that people who are going to the Kerrang! tour are typing in 'Dir en grey' into YouTube to see what they're like and the video that comes up is Cage. Kids, if this applies to you, what you're hearing now isn't the music you'll be hearing at the Kerrang! tour.

Very true. I just saw them. Fucking awesome show. Mostly stuff from the last three albums...which is much much harder than this song. Cage is great though.

Dir looks like one of the German words for "you", en looks like the Spanish word for "in", and grey is a color in English. "You in Grey"? XP
But I don't think that's what the guys were aiming for. They chose the name because it "sounded right". It's a mixture of languages, so that people would not be able to attach a specific meaning to it other than the band's name itself. So I've read.

i've read that it means "coin in grey" but i never thought that made a lot of sense. i also found the translation to be "you in grey" and my own opinion on the name is that it means that not everything has to be black or white. they can be in the grey area. they don't want everyone conforming, and that being grey is okay. or something along those lines

It means nothing.
Kyo has said many times that they made the name up of words from different languages.
Basically they just wanted something meaningless which also sounded good.

"Shades of Grey" was the title of the article in that issue of Metal Hammer. "Dir en grey" doesn't mean anything, it's a just mix of different languages that they thought sounded cool together. At least that's their answer when they're asked these days.

Sexy as always! Dir En Grey is one of my favorite Jrock bands! I wonder how long it takes them to style their hair. Probably longer than me! lol. Dir En Grey is comming to Seattle in a few. I'm gonna go see them, and possibly get a couple bruises from the mosh pit again. haha. And omg... I can't wait! This video makes me even more excited!
