Tough Guise: Violence, Media & the Crisis in Masculinity
Pershkrimi videos:http://www.mediaed.org
While the social construction of femininity has been widely examined, the dominant role of masculinity has until recently remained largely invisible. Tough Guise is the first educational video geared toward college and high school students to systematically examine the relationship between pop-cultural imagery and the social construction of masculine identities in the U.S. at the dawn of the 21st century.
In this innovative and wide-ranging analysis, Jackson Katz argues that widespread violence in American society, including the tragic school shootings in Littleton, Colorado, Jonesboro, Arkansas, and elsewhere, needs to be understood as part of an ongoing crisis in masculinity.
This exciting new media literacy tool-- utilizing racially diverse subject matter and examples-- will enlighten and provoke students (both males and females) to evaluate their own participation in the culture of contemporary masculinity.

Watch for this in TV commercials, There has come to be four archetypes in commercials. The Wise Black woman, the street smart Black man, the intelligent white woman and the fat buffoon white man. I do not know what their intent is in this, but I keep seeing this Hierarchy again and again. I wish I could read their minds because they never have our best interests in mind, but this one is deep.
On TV a man being hurt is shown as a comedy. A woman being hurt is shown as a tragedy.
But then there is this big demand that men should show compassion to others. It doesn't work that way. It has to be a two way street.

JUST to name a few...
The MAJORITY of men, now and throughout history have not been neither violent or criminal or rapist or anything but loving and compassionat.
The social construct of men have been explored mainly by women, and as a result a gynocentric view and new/old/altered stereotypes are born/maintained. Mainly because they are useful political tools and to enforce the view a the woman-as-a-victim.
Yet there is no ROOM for men to be sensitive, because as at the same time that feminism demands the sensitive man, it denies him the right to voice his concerns, to voice his issues, to be a victim (especially to anything women do), refuse to take the blame for everything thats wrong in society. Or in essence, denies men to manifest this sensitivity.
Its a double bind for men. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.
