You're correct, I have taught music. You may or may not be wrong, as I haven't done any useful double-blind studies (!). It's just my experience. Anyway, I was making what I still think is a salient point. Presently I work in hell's bastion...for a Wall Street firm. A J.S. Bach tocatta would fit the mood nicely at times here (or perhaps Mozart's Requiem!).

(cuckle) It sounds like you find your job something of an ordeal, though I am at present scarcely in a more enviable position. Your point, if I interpret you correctly, seems to be that among classical (using the term in its broad sense) composers young people tend to find Bach particularly abstruse and/or uninteresting. I find this counterintuitive, but concede I have no other grounds on which to disagree and should probably bow to your experience. Let me relate a brief anecdote...

Not necessarily abstruse or uninteresting (I think most find Bach very interesting and worthy of dissection), just not overtly passionate to their modern sensibilities. Just as the original poster felt about Kapustin.

Jesus ,I ve beenlisrtening to all theKapustin here. Wonderful jazz sense. but will I be able to play these after a Chopin or Godowsky study .I havent studied jazz buti think its our American natural vernacular so we can do things and define its style.I muss go get his man's music.We need moree new music on our piano recitals . audiences need new music!!!!
