The latest Russian T-90 is only slightly better then the old ass T-72's. It still sucks ass anyway you put it. Even though most were destroyed by aircraft, there were still ALOT destroyed by Abrams tanks, with incredibly few Abrams tanks damaged, let alone taken out of service due to damage/destruction, and no crew deaths.
And even still, it wouldn't matter a bit if it turned out that, in a hypothetical war between Russia and the U.S., the T-90 was, in fact, somewhat superior to its American counterpart, as America maintains over 5000 M1's, as opposed to Russia's 350.

The Merkava is better. It has exellent armor, and many protection features, such as trophy active protection system, a gun almost as powerful, a 60mm internal mortar, and machine guns.

You guys are seriously squabbling about which tank is the best!?I'm a lieutenant of the army and a Leopard 2 platoon leader. I have seen single platoons take out companies in combat exercices, ergo tactics make all the difference...Who gives a shit if you've got a gas turbine or a diesel!?only really good leadership and skills can bring out the full potential in a tank. 100 M1 will do no good against 10 Leos if your superiors are tactical morons (and vice versa).

You may be a platoon leader but other than the Leo 2 seeing action in Afghanistan, it really hasn't proved itself against other tanks or in an urban environment unless it goes to Iraq. Still in Desert Storm, the Abrams crews spent 5 months in the Desert training then proceeded to wipe away Iraqi tanks. Still the Abrams and the Challenger II have proven themselves in an actual tank on tank battle and in a urban environment. The Leo II is great on paper no doubt about it, but continue.

They got excellent electronics, excellent protection, but what will happen when it gets hit in the ammo compartment. We know the Abrams have blow panels and a blast door to keep the crew safe. Tactics and leadership help destroy the enemy but what will happen when a tank like the Leo II gets hit in its weak spot how well will the tank protect the crew if the automatic fire extinguisher in the Leo II isn't enough.

I think the M-1 and Loe2 are the best of the bunch and your splitting hairs as to which is better. A Tanker who was in joint exercise said it best. One was better in some areas while the other was better in others, both excellent tanks.
Real statement here is that both are more then a match for any Russian made tank they may encounter on the battle field.

There seem to be a lot of arguments about the performance of the Abrams and the Leopard. In most areas, they are very similar or even identical. However, the Leopard 2 is a better tank. What sets it apart is its L55 gun, which is longer and therefore gives the ammo a higher velocity, increasing its range and impact power. The second thing that makes the Leo2 better is its engine. The Abrams has a Turbine engine, which produces too much heat. The Leopard has a diesel engine, which stays cooler.

Without doubt the Leopard 2A6 PSO (Peace Support Operations) is the best tank in the world. It has a stronger engine than the Leo 2A6M and better all around protection. It also has a better on-board cannon and 360 Degree Camera Vision. It also has a shovel on front of it to remove roadblocks within seconds. And of course it has the L55 cannon also used in all Leopard 2A6 versions. (The Abrams uses the older L44)
