That is probably the dumbest cliche ever.. First of all about 99.99% of songs are written in chords that were developed in Europe (no doubt that there are other types, but these are the used ones). But that would still be very shortsighted. It would be as stupid as calling literature typically Chinese, because they invented print. Music is an art form and those get typically developed by many people in sequence.

late 1800s. end of slave trade. this is the accepted beginning of blues. accepted creators of blues were the african slaves after they took the abandoned instruments of the marching bands of the southern army - american civil war - and put their sorrows into music. this blues. and blues is the root of all modern american music. this is solid fact. a simplified history of modern pop music.

yeah. i admit it was hideously simplified, but in its most basic state - blues began with african slaves brought to america durin civil war. thats all i'm sayin. blues is not american and therefore neither is "rhythm and blues" and classic rock music....
