| I can't really tell from the quality of the recording, but she sounds to be a heavier voiced coloratura. This is absolutely stunning. It seems so spontaneous...just as bel canto should. |

| Tetrazzini's Bel Raggio is my favorite of all her recordings. Even though her voice was lyrical it had a natural fullness and darkness. Her coloratura is ( of course) virtuoistic, and she is one of the few singers of the error whose acuti recorded well. |

| One of the Great Nellie Melba 's only rivals on stage.Once on entering a hotel in Paris where both diva's were staying, Melba walked past the suite of Tetrazzini, and on hearing her vocalising,immediately called for the terrified manager and demanded as to why she was not informed that they had started letting animals into the hotel.The poor manager asked her as to what she meant, she replied 'well, that can only be a cat on heat screeching from that suite!' |

What do you have to say?' I thought carefully for one or two minutes and said,'When I was a child, my Father told me Patti was a very great singer, with many castles, jewels, and fine carriages. | Strange evolution of the taste and technique in the century. Like for violin, the vibrato changed a lot through the years. It 's funny to see that she is not afraid at all to use her chest voice even as a soprano "leggiero" of a certain weight. She gives light and pleasure to all she touchs. |

| There was belcanto before verism and Wagner destryed the habits of singins...The old school was still there but not everywhere. When Callas appeared she took back things of the begining of the century, like Ponselle and some others. |

| Somehow I find that listening to Tetrazzini, one forgets her few vocal shortcomings, not because of her unique interpretive abilities (as with Callas), but because the focus is on her vocal strengths, i.e. her spontaneity, beauty of timbre, fluency, agility, and, most of all, her sheer joy in singing. |

| Melba was not a bitch; she was THE bitch. But she also had a god-given instrument and she brought beauty and enjoyment into many lives. She ruled Covent Garden for 39 years; one doesn't maintain that iron grip without making enemies and stepping on toes. Tetrazzini sang there for a few seasons only, glorious as she was. Melba sang well up to the end; Tetrazzini did not. |

| Tetrazzini was astonishing, and among the accomplished sopranos who ever lived. It's interesting to hear her in this lower repertoire. If you can find it, check out her "Ah, non giunge" from Sonnambula. Mind blowing. |
