I was fortunate enough to see Hendrix two times before he died. The first time was at Newark Synphony Hall in New Jersey and the next year at the Garden in Manhatten.
I was a kid, but my uncle was a great guitarist and I'd been playing classical stuff for a couple of years, but those shows wrecked me and made me a rock and blues player.

I've heard all of those tracks and Melvin really shines on them....until he pushes to outside the structure of the song. Melvin, by no means falls anywhere near Wes so that's not even a valid comparison.
I never said that Melvin has no idea about music so please don;t put words in my mouth. He just wanders away from what works and tries things he shouldn't at times.
He's sloppy at times and many guitarists agree.

I was able to see SRV more than 20 times since he toured so much and I was in Austin often back then. I not only saw him in Texas, though, but in NYC, LA, and in toronto at the El Macombo. I worked as a rigger at a lot of different venues during the 80s and was able to be in the room for soundchecks and things away from the actual shows and got to hear Stevie and others play really relaxed.

Jesse does spend too much of his energy trying to look and move like Steveie Ray and his playing is made up of chops adopted from SRV's pallette of licks.
His brother is so original in everything that he does that it amazes me that Jesse is such a clone of a very well known and unique player.

Although Melvin was a total solo hog, you people don't realize he is a very very talented player. This performace however was by far not his best. I don't know what was up with him. Some people are team players, some are not.

Truly...this sucked. You got all these guys up there how about each guy take a lead or something. The song sucked the singer sucked and Melvin should listen to a record or two of people from his own race that played real blues and jazz. That was one boring jam.
