This is a Drumming Master. I am amazed at how he so effortlessly coaxes sounds from his kit. His sense of time and rhythm astound me. From another time - yet timeless. I am inspired.

Boring to you only because you have no concept or comprehension of papa jo's style and substance!!! Anyone who thinks the way you do needs a course in drums 101!! Papa Jo started in the late 20's and was a contemporary of Webb, Krupa and was playing with Basie before Rich got any notoriety!! Now, you have completed your first class of drum101,so.....GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!

I cannot understand how he can do the bit at 1:01. It's super human. The hardest thing to do when playing drums is to play really quitely and I just find this amazing to watch.

he is the only jazz drummer i know of that used a floor tom on his left hand side...i think Keith moon was the other drummer that was unconventional in his approach to drumming.
buddy was too in his playing the bass drum with his stick.
other drummers wouldn't do that for fear of looking stupid...
