We're from Canada so we would look for the best rates on a site called Sell-off. It has amazing last minute deals and if we can book 2or 3 weeks before we go, we can get the best rate. Resort? Princess, Bahia, Rui, Occidental, Barcelo resorts are all big and good resort chains. It depends on what you are wanting mostly.

The Viva Wydham Dominicus Beach (although Bayahibe) was a huge party place. Tequilla Shooters and outdoor beach disco started at 11:30pm every night - crazy frenzied stuff. The language there, was mostly Spanish, which we didn't know.
