The italian army was just an occupying force on the eastern front. This means that whenever german forces advanced into newer territory, italian army would occupy towns and villiages left behind because the Soviet Union was so big and the german forces couldn't ocupy it all and have enough troops to fight the war. This film depicts the italian forces in direct combat with the red army which did happen but very rarely since the nazi war machine was doing almost all of the combat fighting.

this movie is based on real histroical facts. along the river DON the line was occupeted from the royal italian army, not from the germans. my grandfather was there. learn history man.

the 8th italian army are in the left flank positioned in don river,the 6th german army,only concentrate in the fight of stalingrad,russian first cut the right flank of stalingrad attacking 3th and 4th rumanian army and next the left flank attacking 8th italian army and 2th hungarian army,next the germans in stalingrad are surrounded,germans try to escape with help from outhere but cant escape are too later

I think u did never read the strory.
The italian troups received the order to leave the front only in january 16, after one mounth that the german troups left. Their sacrifice (italian I mena) saed a lot of people there. They walked and fought vs rusian's army for one month till njckolajewka, in jan 26 1943....

in russia...russian commanders were notoriously careless and cavalier when in came to the life of their troops. They had plenty of men and would often attack, repeatedly, head on, specially with mongolian troops. One of the things they would do is send men attacking with only one every two holding a rifle, the othe guy was supposed to pick it up once his companion was dead.

Or they would place a whole company in a strategic position, waiting; when the company was totally annhilated by mortar fire, they would send another company to occupy the exact same place, repeatedly.

inaccurate...the "Julia"..the "Grappa" division and a few others were in the first line on the Don...spread too thin, the Germans and the italians toghether coudl scarsely cover all the territory...

there are lots of italian eyewitness of the russian attack, it was like is in this movie. Maybe you're talking about the attack against the germans, but agains italians it was with troops running in a crowd.

this was at the begining of the war: when russians lack equipment and training. at the end, even they preserved the infanterists tactics(canon meat), the true is they overpowered germans, and all the axis allies, with fire-power, plains, tanks,...and their training was much improved, because of weel equiped, high moral,...

Italian alpine troops fought 12 (won) battles against the russians ending with Nikolaewka. You learnt history reading comics? Italians proud fought against communist russia, with no arms no petrol no coats. Canadians were allied of communist russia.

guarda mio nonno è stato in guerra. Mi racconta che il 99% dei soldati semplici erano poveri operai e contadini che non avevano mai messo il naso fuori dal loro paesello. Provo pena per loro, e provo pena per tutti quelli che indottrinati, credettero nel fascismo. Mann puoi sostenere che agli italiani fregasse realmente qualcosa di combattere la russia.
